What is Skin Pigmentation?
Sun spots, liver spots and freckles are examples of unwanted pigmentation and are often associated with skin ageing, or over exposure to the sun or sunbeds.
Age spots start to appear from the age of 40+ when the skin is less able to regenerate. Generally posing no health risk, age spots can be unsightly and adversely affect wellbeing.
Freckling and age spots are effectively and quickly removed or lightened with Intense Pulse Light (IPL) without risk in just a few easy treatments.

At Skintastic Aesthetic Clinic, my expertise, care and technology:

  • Reduces areas of excess freckling
  • Targets, removes or reduces specific age spots and patches
  • Gives you a more even skin tone
  • Am I suitable for treatments?

Most people are suitable for treatment except for very dark skinned or tanned individuals. Dark moles should not be treated nor would we advise IPL for melasma, this would be better suited to fractional laser.

  • What does treatment feel like?

Treatment is mildly uncomfortable and a warm, tingling sensation not unlike sunburn is experienced afterwards.

  • What will my skin look like after treatment?

The treated area may feel warm and sensitive for the first few days post treatment. With Intense Pulsed Light treatments the lesions will darken and may appear more obvious before they fade and flake away.

  • How long does each treatment take?

The length of each treatment will depend on the type and size of lesion present, but a typical session will take 10 to 30 minutes.

  • How many treatments are necessary?

The number of treatments will depend on the type and size of the pigmented lesion but typically 3-4 sessions are required at a one month interval.

  • Are there any side effects?

Most people experience little more than slight reddening and possibly mild swelling which usually disappear within hours to a couple of days. Very rarely a small blister may form or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can occur.
